Vaccine Hesitancy Among Texas Hispanics: A Study by Texas State University
Episode 36 - In this episode, we talk about the ongoing battle with COVID-19 and vaccine hesitancy among Texas Hispanics. To get a better understanding of why Hispanics are hesitant to get the vaccine, TAMACC partnered with Texas State University to conduct a study. Two of the three professors that conducted the study are interviewed on this podcast, Jennifer Scharlach, Assistant Professor of Practice, Program Coordinator, Texas State University, and Dr. Vanessa de Macedo Higgins Joyce, Associate Professor, Texas State University.
While the COVID-19 vaccination gap between Texas Hispanics and non-Hispanics has decreased, vaccination hesitancy is still an issue within this vulnerable population in Texas. Almost half of the unvaccinated survey respondents indicated strong intentions against vaccinating, stemming from distrust and fear.
